To give you a natural appearance and to help support your lips and cheeks, the teeth on your new dentures have been placed as close to the exact location of your natural teeth. There is usually a period of awkwardness where it feels like your mouth and lips are being pushed forwards by teeth that seem too big. This is normal and should not worry you, this feeling will soon wear off as you get used to the new dentures in your mouth.
At first your dentures may feel like they are too big and you may feel embarrassed thinking others will think the same, but in fact, this isn't the case at all. It is important to have patience with your new dentures in the beginning, you may have a feeling of gagging or excess saliva, but within a short time these feelings will pass. Control of your dentures may be difficult at first but over time it will become automatic. Some people master the dentures in a very short time, while others require weeks of patience to do so.
